This residential property, set amidst a collection of executive family homes just south of Aberdeen, was designed to blend modern day living with rural life. The garden design project aimed to blend this ideal of contemporary living with the rural landscape.
At the heart of the project brief, and subsequent design and construction, is a wildlife pond, seamlessly integrated into the generous seating area of the off-white porcelain clad patio which is accessed via gently descending steps. A meandering pathway leads to a sunken pergola snugly ensconced within a U-shaped retaining wall, adorned with off-white porcelain tiles—an architectural style that creates a sense of security and elegance.
This outdoor space has a wood-burning stove—perfect for cosy night time gatherings. Illuminated by carefully placed lighting throughout, the grounds unveil its charm throughout the evening.
A thoughtful curation of plantings, mirroring the palette of the property, seamlessly blends the garden with the home. The inclusion of clay pavers, alongside the stately presence of mature chestnut trees, further elevates the natural charm of this landscape.
The pergola's strategic placement extends the garden's use well into late summer evenings, providing a perfect setting for unwinding with a glass of wine. The installation of power and a revamped pathway dark porcelain, which tackled drainage concerns, enhance both the aesthetics and the practicality for the home owners.
In creating this outdoor space, we aimed not just to create an outdoor living space but to cultivate an extension of the dwelling—an outdoor sanctuary where modern day life meets nature.
"When we returned to Aberdeen from London after twenty two years, we left behind a really nice garden which we had developed once the kids stopped playing football. While we liked our new house very much, the garden was a major disappointment. It was a small town plot, which we couldn’t change.....
